Omakase Burger, Singapore

Omakase, meaning "to entrust", from the Japanese phrase "to leave it up to you". In this case, to trust that the burgers are made using the freshest and highest quality ingredients, perhaps, made with love.

Ranked as one of the top burgers in town, some say the best, I had high expectations. Located at the newly renovated Grandstand (formerly known as Turf City), it reminded me of local burger joints in Perth.

 Mexican coke

Nothing better to wash down a burger than a coke and the guy recommended us to try the coke from Mexico. What's so special? It's apparently made with 100% natural cane sugar...I mean real sugar vs corn syrup. In a glass bottle. To be honest, I couldn't really justify the price difference in taste alone. You could taste the subtle differences but I would have regular coke anytime. I could have been more attracted to the slightly teal tinted glass bottle more than anything else.

Omakase Burger ($13.90)

The plainest and most straightforward burger on the menu, no add ons to cover up tastes, just pure straight up unadulterated beef burger. Omakase prides on their patty which is a blend of 100% USDA choice grade premium cuts, made daily to guarantee optimum freshness. The buns are artisanal buns, carefully thought out and chosen to support the patty while their cheese are specially imported from America, none of that fake plastic cheddar stuff.

After all that hassle and thought put into a burger, just how good can this burger be?

Oh, it was good. Let's start with the patty. Beefy in all the right ways and very simply seasoned so all you taste is the quality of the beef. The cheese melts over it, encasing the whole medium rare patty while acting as the glue to the buns. The buns...oh the buns. Light, fluffy and very buttery. Very brioche like. And the "secret Omakase sauce" wasn't too overpowering, provided just enough tang and saltiness to the burger.

For $13.90++ though, it was a little on the pricey side. Wasn't a huge burger or anything, but I am a firm believer of you pay for what you get. Definitely worth trying and revisiting, maybe only when you have extra cash lying around to blow on food.
